Oldies is a radio format that concentrates on music from a period of about 15 to 55 years before the present day.
In the 1980s and 1990s, "oldies" meant the 15 years from the birth of rock and roll rock to the beginning of the singer-songwriter era of the early 1970s, or about 1955 to 1972, although this varied and some stations chose 1950-1969. After 2000, 1970s music was increasingly included, and early 1980s music is beginning to also be called "oldies", though the term "classic hits" is used to distinguish the "new" oldies (the Generation X oldies) from the "old" oldies (the Baby Boomer oldies).
Tropical rock (or trop rock) is a genre of popular music that incorporates elements and influences of rock and roll, reggae, country music, caribbean, Calypso music and zydeco, with themes and musical compositions inspired by an island style.
The origins of the genre may be related to the musical sound of Jimmy Buffett and his folk singing style. Buffett and the Coral Reefers have helped create a tropical sub culture. In the early to mid 80's, Buffett and others.
Mainstream artists like Zac Brown Band, Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney have songs in the trop rock genre.
Pop music is a genre of popular music. A term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular". Typical pop music characteristics include an aim of appealing to a general audience with a tendency to reflect current trends. Much of today’s pop music is intended to encourage dancing, or it uses dance-oriented beats or rhythms.
